I was wondering if anyone could give me a little advice. I'm looking to upgrade my CPU - Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4670K CPU @ 3.40GHz, 3401 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 4 Logical Processor(s) with a GA-Z87-D3HP motherboard. My budget is about £300, any recommendations? I am aware that i can't use any CPU that requires DDR4.

What do you use your PC for - are you experiencing any slow down in games?

That's still a strong CPU - and if were clocked and coupled with a decent GPU it will still be a very strong system for gaming or app use. No need to upgrade - clock the CPU (third party cooler if required) and perhaps upgrade another component if needed.

What's the rest of your system spec - screen res too?

Radeon hd 7970
8gb ddr3 ram
Samsung evo ssd 250gig

Mostly looking to speed up video editing a little as i've noticed some lags in places. Was looking at a new GPU but prices seem crazy high now! Dam cryptominers!

Overclock the 4670k if it isn't already (should hit 4.2-4.4Ghz easily enough with a decent cooler) or drop a second hand i7 4790k in it which should help in video editing if your program can make use of the HT on the i7. You may have to flash the bios with your current cpu in the board first. You would need bios version F6 or later (F7 is the latest) for the board to work with a 4790k.

Looking for a 2nd hand 4770k/4790k is definatly the best option for you if an overclock doesnt satisfy your needs.

Also isnt 8 gb ram a bottleneck for video editing these days?
