To HD Or Not HD

We get HD in my house. Mainly for the sports but sometimes watch the movies.

Yeah there is a difference in everyday normal tv on like Sky HD but it completely depends on what you like to watch ie, discovery is awesome in HD as is Sky sports. :)

EDIT: We have a 42" Plasma - Panasonic PZ something or other...blue ray is awesome - was really surprised when I watched it for the first time. :o

Did hear a rumor sometime ago that Sky do this to get people to switch over, although not sure if it's true?

Well its true if you think about it, normal sky+ box uses SCART or composite cable, SKY HD uses an HDMI cable so it is upscaled, therefore standard definition will look better.

People who say there no difference from SD&HD quality need their eyes tested, although there is a hell of a lot of upscaled programmes shown as HD channels at the moment..Rush Hd is one of the best on sky for quality;)

Eye test for those that can't see the difference.

I've had HD for around 18 months on a 46" screen and I can rarely tell much of a difference (been on SD by mistake sometimes and not realised). The only thing that really impressed me was Planet Earth on BBC HD, on sports sometimes background stuff is a bit clearer e.g. football crowd, wimbledon scoreboard etc.

Then again maybe worth mentioning that I think the SD picture is normally very good so it's not that I'm "disappointed" with the HD picture per se.

I've got a Sky HD box but don't subscribe to the HD pack meaning I don't pay the extra £10 a month, still get the plus features, recording live pause etc and get all the FTV HD channels (BBC, ITV, Channel 4, FIVE etc HD channels) but not the HD channels that you pay for normally Sky1 HD, ITV2 HD.

Its defiantly worth it if the source program is in HD, but would never pay the extra as I don't really watch any other channels than the main five and channels that aren't in HD anyway. If you already have a sky dish and cabling and stuff and not bothered about the additional channels see about getting a second hand HD box.

I've only got Virgin, and tbh most of it is rubbish even on the good package too many repeats. I wouldn't get HD from them.

Going to either cancel the whole lot and go to sky or just forget paid for TV and use freeview since I don't watch as much as I used too.

Pub for the football

Do you reckon they'll still show repeats of Star Trek and Simpsons etc.. in 50? or 100 years?

That content has no need for HD, look at HD channels for £10 a month I would be wanting a few brand new HD programmes, every night that I can watch not some upscaled rubbish.

Considering we went from 1992 till what 2008/9 in the EPL when HD came along, nobody kicked off because of the screen quality, its a gimmick.

I'm so used to watching footie in HD now that when I was around my mates house watching a game on ITV I thought I was back in the dark ages.

Also wildlife progs look fab in HD

As I only really watch films I don't think that "live hd" is worth it. I'm more than happy to rent blu-rays with my lovefilm subscription instead.
