I’m seriously considering buying an iPhone and I’ve been reading through most of the iPhone threads here and have some questions.

Does the phone really suffer for not having 3G? I know from reading up that O2 has beefed up its EDGE/GPRS network but what is web browsing/email like with it?

The main reason I held of buying one was Macworld and the thought of them launching a v2 iPhone, realistically when could this be a reality? I don’t want to buy one only to find within months it’ll have been pointless.

What is the onscreen keyboard like to use? I have limited hand movement due to a spinal injury, I currently use the LG Prada which is pretty responsive, is the iPhone touch screen any better?

On a completely different note, does apple or any third party manufactures make an all in one keyboard/touchpad for use with an apple desktop like an iMac? I’m a PC user currently but would like to know for the future. I currently use this Keysonic to give you an idea of what I’m looking for.

I dont browse over edge as i diasabled it so i didnt run up a bill but....

The iphone is a fantastic piece of kit, web browsing over wifi is great and this is what my iphone is used most for aswell as call obviously. The onscreen keyboard is really good too and after a couple of weeks you will find yourself typing extremely quicky with it. No 3g for me is a complete non issue.

With regards to the touchscreen, my girlfriend has a viewty (similar to the prada?) and its horrible, seems so unresponsive compared to the iphone.

Goto an apple/o2 store and have a play, it may be abit bigger than most phones but with the slimness it feels much better in my pocket than my old N73.

Best gadget i have ever bought.

I should have mentioned in my main post but I've already played with one a few times and it is a great bit of kit!:D

I know that the new 1.1.3 Firmware added multiple SMS messaging, what are the chances of getting MMS messaging on the iPhone? I know currently if you receive an MMS message on iPhone, O2 will sent you an SMS message with a link to view the picture on the web (no problem with that!) but will iPhone ever get it native MMS support i.e. the ability to Send & Receive?

I had a play with one in the Apple store and was suprised at how light it felt, I was hoping that a 3G version would be announced too. The only problem I have with it is that I have abnormally large thumbs, larger than anyone I've ever met and it causes a problem when using the keyboard but I think I could get used to it.

Do you have to buy it with an O2 contract or could you buy it and stick an O2 PAYG sim in it?

You can send MMS with an app but your iphone has to be jailbroken.

RobH, you can buy the iphone and jailbreak it to use on an o2 payg, this is something you would need to read up on and decide if you wanted to do it. I currently have mine on an £8.75 per month 12month o2 contract :)
