I have just purchased a P5kE and Q6600 cpu. On inspection of said CPU with a straight edge it appears to bulge in the centre. From what I have read I was expecting it to be the opposite way round.
This is going to go under my D-Tek fuzion (rev 1) with the quad nozzle and thicker washer.

Does the CPU need lapping or will the block squash it straight, if so, will I run the risk of crushing the CPU completely?

Lapped mine yesterday. Sounds like it was the same shape as yours. The copper at the centre appeared right away and it took nearly an hour on the coarser paper to get the rest of the copper to appear.
I'm using the Fuzion V2 without any of the optional extras. The temps did drop by about 4-5 degrees but I also did a water loop cleanout and cleaned the rad which looked like this. So the benefits were there but not too dramatic. Not sure how much of it was due to the lapping and how much due to the general cleanup.
