that is the question? im in quite the pickle. ive chosen the DFI lanparty JR p45 as my basis for an OC'd quadcore system. but now im having doubts. is this system worth making? the computer will be used heavily. editing and decoding being the main uses. should i stick to small form or go full sized?

the motherboard will be sitting in an Antec mini p180. which i know..is far from small. but i really like its construction.

so what to do? stay small form or go bigger?

any questions just shoot away.

thanks

Horses for courses really.I went Matx a couple of years ago just for a change really. Was fed up of big boxes full of cathodes and watercooling ...

I am looking to upgrade my curent gigabyte Matx boad.I nearly went for the DFI lanparty JR p45 that you have gone for . but was put off by the graphic card slots being locked to 8X , even if you only have 1 graphic card installed.

If you go ATX over MAtx you get a bigger choice of mobos ,upgrading is easier ( not looking forward to installing my new HD), cooling is better.Theres a lot of reasons Not to go Matx. But im glad that i did.

nah, JR can deffo go x16 from one slot. a guy i know runs his 4870 at x16. i think its new bios update or summat. he didn't specify. its only when two gu's are slotted that it cuts down to x8 and even then i hear it dont make much of a diffrence.

so if not mATX. what motherboard is recommended for someone who wants 8gb of memory, quadcore and edits and decodes a lot.

thanks

the pcie bus is locked at 8x on this mobo im afraid.A bios upgrade wont make any difference.

This motherboard doesnt have the switching and routing hardware to enable 16 lanes. Theres plenty of information about this hardware limitation of this mobo on the www.

So unfortunatley your friend is mistaken if he thinks hes running 16 x bios update or no bios update.

really? crap! hmm...i swear i saw something along the lines of x16. will it make an enormous diffrence running at a slower bus?

crap.this kinda changes my whole perspective on things..mobo. case..cpu...
