To Mixer or Not

Hi,

After some advice here as this is all new to me.

My line of work has recently taken me into producing demonstration videos and my Sound / Mic just is not cutting it.

I noticed many of the youtube videos that people are using DAC's and mixers and hence the newbie questions.

I have a high range PC with the onboard 7.1 motherboard sound card and some normal logitec 5.1 speakers with the standard 3.5mm jacks (orange, black gree, etc)

I am also using the Metal Snowball Microphone and USB Headphones (Yes they will be changed out soon)

So I am looking at this the Yamaha MG10XU Mixer and the Rode NT1Kit Condenser Mic

Now for the questions.

1. The Mixer is USB, does this effectively replace my motherboard sound card as an external sound card via the USB cable for all my needs ?

2. How would I go about connecting up my 3.5mm multi coloured logitec speakers to this ?

I know I will eventually have to replace my speakers and headphones, but the answers to the questions above would greatly help me work out if this is the way to go especially since I am considering adding in my electric guitars at some stage to the set up.

Thanks

Although I'm not overly familiar with mixers, it will replace the motherboard's audio; although by using a USB microphone and headset, you aren't using the motherboard audio currently. Only the 3.5mm outputs use the onboard audio.

You can't connect 5.1 speakers to the mixer for 5.1 audio, because mixers are designed for studio or music production use, which is always stereo.

Replacing the 5.1 speakers with studio monitor speakers will be a good move when funds allow, but you could just connect the green jack to a 3.5mm female socket to 2 RCA cable, which will plug into the mixer and allow you to use them as 2.1.

Thanks, thought that might be the case.

Not quite the same thing but a lot of professional streamers use the Behringer Xenyx 802.

Can't go wrong with RØDE - I used to have an original NT1 when I used to have home recording studio (more vocal mic though) but definitely end up with something good.
