Hi guys,
My rig is no longer a beast by todays standards, and with all this next gen gamign stuff, it's starting to show its age. so the question is, should I consider overclocking?

Specs:

Asus A8R32 MVP Deluxe
Athalon 64 X2 3800+
2gb G.Skill pc3200
Radeon x1800
Hiper 550w (I think that's the wattage, blue modular one)

Stock cooler on the cpu, so I'd have to change over.

Cheers for advice,
Ant

go go go!

I would do it for sure. It may delay your upgrade by a few weeks/months.

If you have never done it before, make sure you read all the sticky posts in the overclocking threads.

ok, i realise i sounded like a kid in the last post so here's a serious response :-)

overclock this rig of course but i still think it will seem a biut outdated to you in the modern gaming scene if that s what you are comparing it to.

the psu and case are probably good enough to build a new rig with so if you really wanna run higher fps or better graphics etc then a new mobo, cpu and ram combo may be your best bet.

can do that for £300 easily mate, but all depends on your budget.

hope that helps

Your parts give you a chance of overclocking a decent amount, I'd suggest the Arctic Freezer 64 for the cooler, it offers solid performance and isn't terribly expensive so even if you don't go that far with the overclocking it hasn't cost you too much.

i think you'll find overclocking fun anyway, its something to do at the very least and what semi pro waster is suggesting seems to be a very good cooler so you may get a decent overclock according to reports.

Silly question...of course!

Even if you don't overclock by much you'll have a much better understand of how things work and it's all experience that will serve you well in the future with other rigs you might want to overclock.

Go for it! :D

Basically your getting free performance from your parts, and personally i love free-ness.
Like you get a cake and from the nice cake lady, you get a free lollypop, FOR FREE.
Love'it.

I did a lot of OC tweaking with my old rig (barton 2800+ and an a-bit nf7-s, those were the days!)

but this new one has me confused. Any guides you know of?
