Ok im a huge gamer and as a gamer im always looking for the next best performance piece to make my games look better and so im getting a core 2 duo 6850, but i was wondering if i should get a quad core ?

For the price you cant go wrong, I had the same issue. worst it can be is Dual core in games for a while. GO QUAD =] :o

well if your sigs correct and you've got a [email protected] then i wouldn't bother getting either tbh.

unless your a supp comm addict i wouldn't bother with a quad just yet if your whole reason for getting one is your a hardcore gamer & that's all your gonna do with it. you might be unlucky & get a turkey that won't clock past say 3.2 - 3.4 ( there are no guaruntees when it comes to clocking ). as for the 6850 i don't see the point in that either, if you where coming from a low clock i could see the point.

Vog says not worthwhile, stop throwing money at your PC. If you want to spend it, spend it elseware.

Unless you do lots of 3D rendering, video processing/encoding all day long.

Going from SC to DC is worthwhile, but at this present time a fast dual core is more than sufficient.

I'd agree with the above 2 posts, as you have a pretty decent clock with your current cpu, you aren't going to really notice any difference in games with a new cpu (unless, again as stated, you are a supreme commander addict..)

Chances are the quad will NOT hit 3.6ghz, so would be pretty pointless for current games, but if you also do a lot of encoding/vmware usage, then quad would most definately be worth it...

As for the e6850, 4ghz isn't a huge improvement over 3.6ghz in pretty much all games out there...

Save the money, get a 9800gtx when they're about, that'll improve your games... :D
