I have a motherboard that only supports up to pc5300 (667mhz) is this really bad? I want to upgrade to 2gig from one but am i better buying a motherboard for later versions first?

You can buy pc6400 now and it will run fine at pc5300 speeds in your current board.

So if i buy 2gb how will it compare to newer ram?

The RAM will be new... so I dont get your question. Just buy 2GB of PC6400 RAM such as Geil etc and you will be fine. :)

Would help if you told us what your motherboard actually was too...

Ahh it's AM2. Well, even if the board won't take advantage of the RAm without overclocking, it will still work fine at the lower rated speed. But if you overclock it will give you more headroom to raise the FSB.

Doesn't seem like a great motherboard for overclocking though...

i suppose it will still be better than what i have now

What do you have now? If you want to start threads asking for help its better to lsit all your components in the opening post. Makes it easier for us to make decisions without having to waste time fishing for more info. :)
