Simple question, is it worth upgrading to the Q6600 from an E6600.

Im upgrading at the end of the month due to a generous bonus, but wondering if ill notice much difference in performace ?

i wouldnt think so, that is unless you perform tasks that will utilize the extra 2 cores. bearing in mind you probebrly dont ustilize the 2 you have fully. unless of course you use things like 3dmax and the like.

with penryn so close an upgrade like that is worthless really wait a little and buy a better quad.

The only think thats sparked this is the fact i cant run world it conflict to well on full whack and the crysis beta is a little choppy.

I got a 8800 GTX so it cant be that, and 2gb of ram. So the cpu is the only thing i can think of thats holding my pc back. Or perhaps games are becoming to ahead of time.

why not, these G0s run fairly cool. In a month I might be doing a e6600 vs a Q6600 review (I'm waiting for crysis single player demo) if you can wait till then.

I have both the E6600 and Q6600 (in 2 different systems)....and when you use software that utilises more than 2 cores (ie. video or audio encoding etc), the Q6600 is in a league of it's own..

The Q6600 is a joy to use :)

Im thinking of buying another 2gb of ram too. then id be running;

Q6600
4GB Crucial Ballistix @ 800FSB
8800GTX @ 630 / 2000

That should run crysis without a hickup ?

I'm pretty surprised your having problems with the E6600 as its a decent chip. What operating system are you using, and what resolution are you gaming on?

I was using Vista 64 Home premium with BF2142 and found it unplayable because of lag (not induced by my net connection). Put XP back on and everything was great again.

I do rate both the Q6600 and the E6600 don't get me wrong (hence why i have one), I just wouldn't be able to justify spending money on upgrading.

At the end of the day its your money and decision, but thought i'd voice my opinion :)

Well i got my Q6600 Today. Got it running at 8 x 400 FSB = 3200. Think i got my vcore abit to high at 1.35 but its running good, temps under load are arround 50 - 55c ? How does that sound ?

Umm, read my previous post mate :)

Arrived this morning, already in my pc and running !

Gotta update my siggy now, lol. Got a GTX and the Q6600 now ! Im finding about 15 more FPS with this chip by the way, on XP.

Sounds pretty good. If the temps are only 55 load then you're fine. You could drop the FSB and try it on the 9 multi, push towards 3.5 GHz...

Crysis BETA....Beeeeeeeeeeta

The 'B' word is there for a reason ;)

I'd wait untill official release, then see if the games stil choppy. Cause quite frankly the money could be put elsewhere more than likely =/

**Edit**

Eh up! Just realised you've already brought the damn thing, ah well :)
