After a bit of a sanity check.

Currently, I'm just looking around at the current hardware that's available - as my rig is around 4 years old now ( although I don't have any problems with it )

I game mostly at 2560 x 1440 - and can play pretty much any game that I currently play without any issues.

Current Rig :

i7 5820k running @ 4.4 ghz
Corsair H110iGT CPU AIO
Asus X99-S Mobo
16gb Corsair Dominator 2666 mhz
2 x MSI 980 in SLi
Superflower 1300W PSU
ASUS PB278 (2560x1440@60Hz) Primary
BenQ XL2410T (1920x1080@60Hz) Secondary

I've been looking at a load of options for upgrade, to be honest - with what I currently have - I would only really be looking for CPU, Mobo, Ram and GPU as an upgrade.

I really like the new addressable RGB pieces of kit especially the G.Skill RGB Trident Ram - love it !!

However, me putting a spec list together of the following :

9900k
Asus Rog Maximus XI Hero
MSI RTX 2080 Gaming X Trio
G.Skill Trident Z RGB - 32gb

that's already taking me to around £1,750 which seems pretty high ( my rig when purchased was probably around 2.5k 4 years ago - but that was with everything )

Also looking at the prices of the rgb fans, and they seem super expensive !!

I really don't know whether I should wait for the next generation of hardware, I know I would probably see some improvement but is it worth it ?

Just get yourself a new GPU. Your CPU is fine. It has 6 cores and 12 threads which is just fine for games right now.

Yeah sounds sensible to me :)

Thinking of going for the RTX 2080 - as I just can't warrant spending 1k on the 2080ti !! I presume the 2080 is still a good card

Just to elaborate on my earlier answer: the 980 Ti in SLI is about equivalent to a 1080 Ti, which is about equivalent to a 2080, so in games that support SLI you won't see much if any improvement.

That's cool - current cards are not 980ti though, just standard 980 - I was originally ordering a pair of 970's but that was when the 4gb / 3.5gb ram debacle started - so upped them on my order with OC's to 980's :)
