I've had my contract for a few years and havn't changed it since I took it out (~2008) and after making a few enquiries, its not available anymore, so if I was to change my contract, its gone for good. My upgrade became available in December 2010 but I've not really decided so I've kept what I have.

Im currently on 02 simplicity (which is a sim only contract): 800mins, 800texts + unlimited texts (bolt-on) + blackberry services all for £20 a month. (12months too) and I'm using a blackberry 8520 which I bought last year. I guess it 'does the job', but think its time for a change. Its not given me much greif but it does have its faults, freezing and common trackpad issues, slow internet.

Now the hard part is finding a deal which is remotely close to what I currently have in terms of value for money. Its not essential to have a lightning fast smart phone but its prefered although doing this would mean signing up to a 18m+ contract, paying double (~£40-£45), meh, (reducing my mins to 600 would make it ~£35/37). Reluctant to do this tbh, but I guess this covers the price of the new phone, though its still quite a compromise.

If I was to buy another phone I'd probably buy a HTC wildfire

If I was to get rid of my contract then I guess that opens a bunch of doors as theres so much to chose from.

In light of the above mentioned, to keep or not to keep?

If the HTC isn't a good buy then are there any other alternatives?

thanks.

If you phone retentions they can usually sort out a deal on a new phone with increased minutes/texts etc.

One of my contracts with o2 atm is 500mins, 1000 texts, 500mb data plus unlimited landlines for £25 per month.

With the Desire being an older phone now you should be able to get that on something similar to the above through retentions I would've thought, better than the wildfire anyway.

Iv read a few reviews and the wf is seens as a mini desire, I didnt enquire about one of those, but because of it being one of the higher end phones, for a cheaper deal then it looks like a chunk of mins will have to go :\

The website offers are generally rubbish with o2, retentions will usually offer you a better deal.

Tell them what you after after and what you wish to pay and see what they say.

As an example deal to show them T-Mobile will do a HTC Wildfire with 600mins, 500texts, internet allowance + a bolt on (texts/landllines etc) for £20.42 per month on a 24month contract.

That's straight off the T-Mobile site, if you look around the web you should be able to find a better phone with a similar tariff, then you can try and barter with retentions or switch to a new network.

Don't buy a HTC Wildfire, they are very poor.

You can get the Galaxy S II for £25/30/35pm with 6-900 minutes if you shop around. www.mobiles.co.uk / www.buymobilephones.net are both good.

If it needs to be cheaper, look around on those sites too at things like the Galaxy S, HTC Desire, HTC Desire S, Incredible S, Xperia Arc, etc.

cheers, will have browse through both
I have just ordered this (originally posted in the SGS2 thread) and it looks like stonking value if you want a top end phone and don't mind a drop in minutes and texts.

I guess one way or another there will be a drop in something, I suppose if there drop isnt too great I wouldn't mind

doesnt sound too bad and I with mins being cross network I wouldnt really be bothered with switching networks, I think that mentioning this to 02 to some extent would make them abit more flexible :D

thanks.
