To what extent are Nvidia the cause of current PSU shortages?

Nvidia are introducing a new 12 pin connector. This has been rumoured for some time and recently confirmed. PSU manufacturers are going to want to provide a cable for that, aren't they? We've just seen MSI launch their PSUs, though that seems to just have a custom cable.

So I wonder if PSU manufacturers knew about the 12 pin connector ahead of time, didn't want a lot of dead stock on their hands, and are gearing up for PSUs with the new 12 pin connector?

Its only the founders edition that will be using the 12 pin connector all other board partners will be using 2 or 3- 8 pin connectors.

Very little, the shortage is due to various COVID related factors and the knock on effects of that.
