To window or not to window?

Hello,

Ridiculously subjective question but;
Have many people bought a non-windowed case because they don’t care about the looks but after the build thought damn that looks really nice I wish I could look at all the pretty? :D
And conversely have many people bought a windowed case and been annoyed/distracted by the amount of light pollution it lets out into the room?
Not talking about added LEDs just the default motherboard and graphics card lighting.

Cheers,
Nothin

I bought a Zalman Z11 Plus a few years back (windowed). It comes with some blue LED fans as default, and has proper cable routing - looks fantastic, though the wife calls it "glary" and "ugly" - so yes, very subjective...

The blue light is soft and great - but the top of the case has a laser-bright, retina-killing red LED that is infuriating. Absolutely blinding.

Love a windowed case - but only if its nicely kept inside. You don't want to see sprawling cables everywhere. Needs to be neat and tidy. With that in mind, get one with decent cable routing and a load of dust filters, to keep it clean inside.

this is what i was going to say :)

If the case is right and it's kept clean and tidy with perfect cable management the right amount of lighting etc. It can be great. Also I find if I don't have the window I forget to check regularly for dust buildup! If you have water Cooling also then imo a window is a must to show off those internals and the hard work. Even if it is just for self gratitude!

I prefer no window but still with uber clean layout out for that warn fuzzy feeling. However most of the cases I like have windows so I just make sure there's no extra leds. Going to get the air 540 soon.

Yes, many have.

Yes, many have.

As someone who fits into the first group, I conquered this by actually cutting my side panel and whacking a window in... before ditching the silly blue-white LED fans that came with the case and installing a whole bunch of other LED thingies instead!!

i have one windowed case simply cos it was the best/cheapest of the bunch i was looking at. the other is an Enthoo non-windowed cos it was cheaper than the windowed version and the case is on a shelf w/ the window side to teh wall so a window would be pointless. the windowed case is on my left so i can't see into it anyways, but like i said it just came w/ the case otherwise i wouldn't have bothered.

I have a windowed case, enthoo primo which only comes in this style. But as it sits below my desk im not that fussed tbh. That and it's too heavy to go on the desk.

Definitely windowed.

Although I prefer not having a full windowed case, you don't need everything showing in there and by having the far right hand side for example hidden just adds to the mystery of what's inside :)

Non windowed just looks basic and standard in my opinion, even if nothing fancy is going on inside (led's etc) it's still going to look better, unless of course everything inside is yucky (eg green pcb motherboards/ram/gpu etc :D)

I had mesh that was hard to see through, so I removed it, and replaced it with clear acrylic for a window :)

Much nicer

Thanks for all the opinions guys.
I'm not usually the type of person who bothers with how things look, function over form and all that.
But I was thinking of buying an MSI Krait motherboard so then started thinking about a black and white theme and if I did that then I'd probably want to admire/stare at it occasionally.
The extra noise leakage is not really a concern but the PC is sat on the right hand side of my desk so having some overly bright LEDs distracting me out of the corner of my eye when late night gaming is my main concern.
I think if I can get the windowed version for the same price as the un-windowed in the sales I'll just go for it, can always fit curtains on it for night time use. :D

Cheers.

Depends if your a case starer or a PC user :)

Bit like those people who put the case on the desk beside them, and then complain about noisey fans, it's really on the desk so they can gaze into the wonders they have lighted up :)))
