Running a Sapphire 4870 512mb GPU (bought when 1st came out).

Temps (Per Gpu-z)under load - Furmark stability test for 18 min
Gpu 82
Mem 92
Shaders 88
Vddc Slave 1 - 84
Vddc Slave 2 - 84

Fan at auto settings per sapphire 26%.

Bought an Arctic Cooler Twin Turbo and fitted.

Temps per same test
Gpu 55 :D
Mem 67.5 :D
Shaders 59 :D
vddc Slave 1 - 98:(
vddc Slave 2 - 101 :(:(

Dissapointed with Vddc temps - +14/15c was not what I was anticipating ; although having read a few user reviews noted their mention from time to time.

Should I be worried ?

Anything I can do to reduce temps - e.g. fan on side of case blowing cool air in direction of gpu?

What are safe temps for the Vddc's ?

Would I be better served going back to original cooler?

As only just installed , it may be that the temps will improve slightly but I doubt they are going to reduce by ,say, 10c which is what i'd like

Case is original Stacker with 2 x 120 intake + board cooling fan. Exhaust is 1x120+1x80.

Help would be much appreciated - Happy Xmas

My VDDC temps where hitting 120+, I put some thermal paste on the VRM and they max out about 80-90 now.

Seems a problem for most people with 3rd party cooling by looks of it.

Don't think I've actually looked at those temps before, only GPU.

My 4870 with the Artic Cooling AC1 with 2 x 92mm silent fans, clocked at 795MHz GPU & 1100MHz Memory....

Idle
Gpu - 46c
Mem - 57c
Shaders - 48c
vddc Slave 1 - 64c
vddc Slave 2 - 67c

100% Load
Gpu - 59c
Mem - 74c
Shaders - 67c
vddc Slave 1 - 122c
vddc Slave 2 - 133c

Wouldn't know where to find much of that info anyway? (Apart from the gpu idle and load, after use when back to desktop.)
Mine usually idles at around mid 40's with fan on around mid 30's.

mine with Trad-2 are all around the 50's with GPU never going above 40 under load

do you have heatsinks on all the right areas?

Finally got temps on vddc back to 80c 'ish.

Silent 120m on floor of case (it's an original Stacker so it has a mesh floor section) blowing air up onto the gpu.

Least you can free up some kitchen space by getting rid of the cooker. :o

You need to fix that ASAP or you will be sending the card in for RMA in awhile.

What sort of VRM sinks are you using? I hope you have something on there at least?

this is how i have my card set up (maze4 block on gpu).

ghettosinks = win

i also vmodded the 4870....well disappointed with results. Stock max 100% stable clock = 875mhz, 1.35V max stable clock = 905mhz

pooooOOO on a stick!

Think its just the stock ones on there. Will take a look again tomorrow.

Thanks for that, I'll grab one of those. I think it is getting hot as the two fans on it point down and don't give any flow over the rear of the card.

edit: On second thoughts, it won't fit. The AC cooler covers the entire card length so it would hit underneath. Hmm

Just opened up GPU-Z and my idle temps are lower all over, so it may have just been a warm day, going to check load temps..

Yep it has the one included with the AC on there, its not that big though really. Bit odd but the temps seem better at the moment.

Might look at changing the cooling if there are better solutions around now.
