By the time my bread is toasted to the colour I want in my Breville 4 slice toaster, edges get burnt and crumble away, particularly less dense bread. Not too bad on heavier slices. What toaster toasts evenly on everything, is there such a thing?

need a kickstarter for a horizontal toaster ... due to hot air rising vertical toasters always seem to give inconsistent results ... rotating the bread half way through helps though.
A toasting fork with an open fire is great

I'd settle for a toaster which has slots the right size/shape for standard bread...

ISO standard bread is rectangular, so why do toasters invariably have slots which are a square shape which is just slightly too narrow to put the bread in lengthways?

Which model? I think it's all about the amount of heating wires inside and how evenly they're arranged as to how even bread gets toasted. Dualit is the solution then? I know they're not cheap and I'm not interested in extra gadgetry or fancy builds, just the heating element. Far as I can tell, it's Dualit and DeLonghi that are the only ones worth considering?

No need to be that complicated, just need to very the size if the elements.
Should not be hard with a bit of trial and error and perhaps a thermal camera. And make the slots actually fit everything and not cost oiled £200 a toaster.
