For those of you who are lucky enough to not be friends with me on facebook here are a few pics of the biggest scariest crash I've ever had (out of 2), was a very high speed off involving lots of spinning, praying and so much good luck. This just happened this morning so my immediate thoughts were of course, to the internet!!!

Here I am shaken, stirred and on the rocks in the highway agencies clean up van, recounting to them how a massive gorilla blocked my path....

The new slip road I decided to take, note I started spinning on the motorway so managed to liberally distribute stones everywhere!

Part of my transition area, I showed off a bit and spun here a few times

I'd have stayed here longer if the services were better equipped

With some help from the boys in blue and the highways guys they pushed me and escorted me to a nearby sliproad where I could more closely examine my very dirty underwear

The damage, basically grass and mud everywhere, tracking feels a bit off and a mild judder under braking, car is booked into Ocean BMW for thursday :)

up on the ramps in the local garage, the police are charging me with theft of roadside dirt, forna and assorted grasses :(

But very seriously this scared the bejesus out of me, if I'd come off anywhere else in any other conditions I would have hit trees, armco, more than likely flipped, spun and more than likely be in a bad way.

For the detectives, I very definitely had DSC on, my tyres are contisport m3s and have plenty of tread, I blew 0.0 on the breathlizer and I reckon I was doing around 70, the weather was horrendous there are as I'm sure you know storms down here (cornwall) so there were very high winds, lots of surface water and I well and truly ran out of talent. So don't just assume your cars computers will save you like I did, because they won't, don't or can't.....

stay safe kids.. tl;dr - I crashed my car

Unlucky / lucky. In fairness the safety Gubbins probably did more than you realise.

Live and learn! Does the z have pop up roll bars?

Not sure (fox will!), but nothing fired, all my airbags etc... are as they were pre-crash. And yes I bet the computers were working overtime, I'm amazed how quickly I came to a stop, but as I picked up 2 tonnes of dirt that probably helped :)

Very lucky!

So what actually happened? Just lost concentration?

No far from it, there was biblical rain so my senses were finally honed, I just drove through a rather large mass of standing water, felt just like ice I had zero control or options available to me, just hold tight and watch as my view went from tree to bush to road to grass to tree to bush to road etc...

I must admit Dsc had saved me from a few wobbles over the years when aquaplaning so I shall learn my lesson and leave earlier in future, although I really would stress I wasn't speeding (anyone who knows me will testify if I'm in the wrong I'll admit it quite happily, lying to strangers is a strange habit round here! >

How much tread on the tyres? Doesnt matter what they are if they can't shift water.

Good it survived though, those Z4s make for good lawnmowers it appears :p

Off to drive through big puddles, with no DSC ;)

The rears are about 6-7000 miles of, I guess 4-5mm at least, the copper on the scene checked them and wasn't remotely concerned so I'm confident in the roadworthiness of the car.

The breakaway was instant not like a small dive followed by a tank slapping driving fail, it whipped me straight off the road, having notched up another mega stint in another s2k I'm reasonably keen to point out I've experienced most things on the road. I've also done nearly 20k in the z4 already :-)

It just proves that physics > DSC. Go too fast, and even DSC won't help.

However, I know Will well, and I know his driving - I do not know the conditions however.... Needless to say it was just a bit of talent running out, and perhaps maybe just going a little bit too fast for the conditions ;) Nah, I know you hit a puddle of standing water - you know I love you babes x

Anyway bro, I'm glad you're okay! I want you in one piece for the wedding!

xxx

I was definitely going too fast for the conditions, I know that because the 318 touring on the inside lane didnt come dancing with me on the grass, lesson learnt well and truly :)

Ladies and gentlemen of the OcUK jury.

What Mr Gill has told you today is what he wants you to believe. The fact of the matter is that he, in a moment if madness, tried to re-enact the opening credits of a 1980s TV show which went wrong. Whilst it is to be thankful for that he is ok, the jury should not be blindsided with the explanation given.

Consider the following video.

He tried to do a Thomas Magnum drive off and it went wrong.

Huge lols, I'm still giggling now :D :D

Nope I've never had a problem with it, can still be read by the ANPR systems so I doubt they would take issue with it unless they were looking for an excuse to meet a daily target/quota :)
