We got this question

A Father and his son were in a horrific car accident. The young boy's father was instantly killed and the son was critically injured. As the emergency services arrived at the scene of the accident the boy was cut out and rushed to the nearest hospital, the boy was
moved in to the operating theater to remove a large piece of glass from the boy's stomach. However the surgeon was only just qualified and the task seemed too much of a risk for him to attempt. The hospital immediately got in contact with there specialist
Qualified surgeon and was flown in from the United States to perform the operation. However when the surgeon arrived and looked
at the patient the surgeon said, "I cant operate. This boy is my son"

How can this be?

The surgeon is his mother.

Pointless question in my eyes, it is neither hard to solve or has any hidden meaning. It's just trying to play on the fact that you will presume the surgeon is male, but a lot of surgeons are female so kind of lame.

edit - or be his mother, is this some kind of study into how guys are sub-conciously sexist or something?

Surgeon and woman at the same paragraph implies that the woman is married to a rich surgeon. Everything else is lame.

The surgeon was also the boy's priest!

Hey, at least it's more original than the other comments :p

Good one, and priests are male so we have the chicks out of this one as well. Nice one dude :D
