I've hardly seen anything about this in the media, certainly not to the levels the Americans commemorate 9/11.

It wouldn't surprise me if more British people are aware of 9/11 than 7/7.

18 years ago today 4 simultaneous attacks happened on the London underground and on a double decker bus.

52 people were killed that day, with hundreds left injured.

RIP

Yeah, I remember being in work that morning and the news filtering through. Quite shocking. Probably the worst attack on British soil by home grown Islamic terrorists.

Still not quite as visceral as watching the second jet hit the tower live on a computer screen. I was in a site office for a major tunnel job under the river Thames, part of HS1. 7/7 was a major attack though for all that.

hardly home grown, 1 was from Jamaica and the others were 1st gen with immigrant parents.

can’t believe it’s been 18 years.

Well 2 out of 3 were home grown...

Luckily Islamist terror seems to have been on the downturn for a while in the UK and europe.

Think the Manchester bombing was the last big one 6 years ago. Whether the security services are better at early prevention now or maybe lots of potential terrorists went off to Syria and died.

I remember being in London a few days/weeks later to go to the US embassy and the security was crazy. Armed police everywhere, concrete barricades. It’s all still there of course, but it’s more built in these days and I guess we’re used to it now. It was also unfortunate that it was the day of the follow up and failed attack (at least I think that’s what happened). I remember hurrying on foot to Paddington to get out of London before it was locked down. It was eerie, shops were shutting, taxis/buses weren’t taking anyone. I just legged it and was fortunate the trains were still running.

Hats off to our security services for (mostly) stopping anything like this happening again.

This may seem a little heartless, but I don't really see the need to remember the day for any reason. It had no impact on me whatsoever. Perhaps if I knew someone who was affected, I might. Yes it was horrible and a lot of people died. There have been many more terrorist attacks previously and I don't feel the need to remember those days either. I prefer to remember nice days, like birthdays and nice holidays. I used to observe armistice day when I was younger, as I was keen on the Army cadets and I lost family in the wars, but even that now, I just buy a poppy and give it not much more thought.

I remember it well. I was at a party the following weekend. One couple only dropped by to say they were on their way to London to identify a body. I was also working in the defence sector at the time, and security was markedly increased.
