Do any of you brilliant people know, if I can use an external digital receiver connected to my sky box, to receive sky tv on my pc and record it with show shifter or a program like it?

I'd love to know if it is possible without buying a huge harddrive and a DVB-TV receiver.

Yes, that is possible. You'll then be able to encode the files to xvid and burn to CD if that's of any use.
