That`s a Slow drive for the money

It's more than fast enough ;) there have been the current gen models for only a fiver more new on the odd deal but these drives are still very quick and pretty reliable! Plus is you only have sata2 like me then you won't be going faster than this anyway.

So yeah it's a pretty swish deal

I have a vertex IIe a good reliable drive and fast enough. Now the decision is whether to get another and raid them.

£1499 for a system without an SSD boot drive? LOL!

Irrelevant, at that price the system should include a SSD boot drive.

Check the motherboard that prebuilt spec has, its a pricey one:

Surely £1499.99 would be custom water cooling !

Read the above.

Sometimes I wonder what it is that goes through your mind. We charge £120 extra for building, overclocking and providing a warranty and system support for 12 months. That's good value. Custom water cooling would cost more than £120 as would adding an SSD. Why would we want to give away these products and the technical teams labour?

I'll make you a deal. You buy £1700 worth of kit, overclock it, provide me with a warranty and support and then charge me £1500. You make a loss but that's "value" right?...

lol well said Andrew, OCUK is a business employing people after all... But for me I would not give up building it for myself although not everyone wants too.

I do have one thought.
If your cheapest 1TB HDD is £97.99 and the OCZ is £127.99 (a difference of £30) then where is the logic in charging £106.99 extra for the SSD when there is, from a technical point of view, no more time or effort involved installing a SSD over a mechanical HDD? (in fact it could be argued that if a customer wants Windows OS then an SSD would save time over an mechanical HDD option. Not that I really think this would matter)

If I did not want to build this machine for myself then I would get the 1TB HDD and buy the OCZ (or whatever SSD I prefered) seperate so I could then use the mechanical HDD as a storage drive.

Would it make more sense to offer people, as an optional extra, an the SSD as a 2nd hard drive option at say the £127.99 plus an 'install fee' so they would have a SSD (for OS) and mechanical HDD (for storage) setup instead?

i thought that is what they do you still keep the 1 tb drive and pay the extra for the ssd or am i wrong

Well it says 'upgrade' and normally when you would keep the base drive it would say something like '2nd hard drive' for the optional extra. Andrew, please correct me if I am wrong

I had 2 of those Vertex 2Es die on me in the space of 4 months. Lost all faith in using the third that arrived from RMA so went with a crucial. Seemed a pretty common problem on the OCZ forums, so everyone saying how reliable they are might want to double check :).

Just a warning!
