One of the reviews states:

"Note: This is the BDR-206DBK which is 12x max and Dual Layer NOT the BDR-206MBK drive from Pioneer which has a write speed of 8x max and BDXL quad layer compatible (the product description is confusing)"

What is the story here? I need a blu-ray writer for archiving video files and if there is bigger media storage options (quad layer?) then I would like to have that option.

Valkia, save me some time mate, what the best discs to use on this device and can I get some of these uber capacity discs here?

The disc's I would recommend using on this device would be the
5 Pack - TDK Blu-ray BD-R (4x) 50GB discs which are currently on This Week Only offer for £43.20 inc. VAT.

However I can also say that

10 Pack - Mirror BluRay 4x Inkjet Full Face Printable 25GB for £9.98 is also a steal.

Valkia, can you confirm what the case is with this please?

The 206DBK = dual layer writing
The 206MBK = quad layer writing

There is 1 major issue, there are no quad layer recordable discs available yet.
