No brainer on the sound card at that price to upgrade from onboard. It must have improved my COD k/d ratio by at least 30%* since getting it.

*That number is completely made up but my positional awareness and the the all round immersiveness of the game is way better since getting one of these.

Can the card be used with 5.1 speakers?

Looking at asus website it says
Analog Output Jack:
3.50mm mini jack *3 (Front/Side/Center-Subwoofer)
Analog Input Jack:
3.50mm mini jack *1 (Line-In/Mic-In)

3 dual-pole (stereo) jacks = 6 mono channel outputs, enough for 5.1, that's the common connector type and quantity that most 5.1 cards and PC speaker/headphones have, so should be fine.

For example I have creative labs 5.1 speaker set, and razer barracuda 5.1 headset, both plug into a 5.1 card like that no probs (the jacks are all colour coordinated too amongst all the gear, pink for the mic, green/black/orange for the 5.1 outputs).

I think I'll have to order one at that price if it's free shipping too lol

EDIT: ordered.

Quick question however. The onboard amp for headphones, will this still work using my front panel audio jacks linked to the sound card, so basically if I plug headphones in at the front of my case, will they be amplified or is this only possible from the rear headphone socket?

The only reason I asked was because on asus page it mentioned nothing about rear speakers.... :)
