Haven't looked at HDDs in a while, does single platter mean faster or slower access than multiple platters, generally speaking of course?

£44 for a 1TB hard drive. That makes me feel old.
Remember when I "built" my first PC (not really a full build but a new company called "Tiny Computers" were selling a PC base unit that needed a HDD adding) I bought a 40MB Seagate drive and remember thinking that I would never fill such an enourmous space!

everytime i see the word 'minimalistic' I think of Karl Pilkington.

Do I need a new HDD?

I ask myself this on a daily basis.

I remember our first modern PC (early/mid 90's) being a Tiny PC. Tagline like "Big things come in Tiny boxes" or something. They were right, as their stuff was huge.

Funny how things change so quickly.

Been sat waiting for ages for a good 1TB deal to come along to get a spare for my HP Microservers RAID array...I was tempted to order 2...but the wife would stab me in the face, so I ordered 1

I'd also like to know what the relevance of single platter vs dual platter? Does single platter give less speed and more reliability or is it less reliable etc?

Single platter will have the same rotational latency as it's spinning at the same rpm but should be quieter & use less power. Not sure you'll see a heck of a lot of difference in performance though.
