:O That's a big old SSD for the price, i'm assuming because it's only sata 2?

How much of a difference would you notice with a sata 2 ssd compared to sata 3? For games for example.

I moved from a sata2 ssd to a sata3 ssd and i couldnt feel a difference is day to day working AT ALL

there will be a difference in benchmarks, if that is important to you

Not in the least XD i've got a m4 for windows, i was just considering this for steam.

SATA 2 vs SATA 3 basically means you can take an extra 2 or 3 ses off your windows load time, that's about it, you won't notice the difference between any half decent SSD from the last few years. That's still a great price for a big SSD with full warranty if you ask me.

so would this drive be a good option for replacing a slow mechanical drive in the mrs laptop? and i presume its a lot quicker thank a mechanical drive? whats the reliabilty like on one of these?
I have a M4 in my pc which feels perfectly snappy will this be the same?
sorry hard drives and ssd have never been my strong point.

It's a 3.5" drive so won't fit in a laptop mate.
Have a look at how much she actually stores on the laptop theirs a few 120gb 2.5" Sata-II drives around still.

I've ordered one of these today, seemed like a good enough idea for games etc,but am now doubtful it'll work on my new haswell pc,seems from various snippets I've just picked up from around web that there's a problem with 1200 series sandforce controllers and haswell z87 boards due to the intel chipset used.
Mb either doesn't recognise the drive or periodically drive disappear's from bios?hope I'm lucky but have doubts lol

This is an awful lot of SSD storage for not a lot of cash. Low IOPS it may have, and it may not be as fast as Sata3, but this is just perfect for a Steam drive. I had been thinking of a 1tb Velociraptor as my next games drive, but this seemed too good of a deal to pass.

I have a QNAP NAS which has a SATA2 controller so one or two of these in there should work well. I've ordered one and am thinking about the second. I just hope the reliability is okay as early Bigfoots (Bigfeet?) had a poor reputation.

If that is the case you could attach them to one of the third party sata controllers, if your board has them.

Yes been thinking that tonight,z87x-ud3h has 6 intel sata 6.0 and 2 marvel sata 6.0,everyone says there not great compared to intel, but I'd not worry too much if drive worked.
I'll find out Tuesday.

1st gen of any SSD controller had compatibility issues and both the SSD maker & the controller needs to collaboratively work on this to provide the best results for the end user. In the initial phases, this has not happened so extensively as is happening now & hence the compatibility issues that we notice now are less. Going forward I believe we will not be noticing any compatibility issues atleast from the sandforce based SSDs ;)

Not in the least XD i've got a m4 for windows, i was just considering this for steam.

I've got something similar set up with my current beast (I7 4770, 32gb of ram, 240gb M5 for the OS/Apps, and the OCZ for steam), and it seems to be much faster for games than the old 2tb mechanical drive I was using for Steam before.

IIRC the OCZ is about twice as fast as my 2tb drive for reading (at least).

Of course if you've got a bottle neck in your system somewhere you won't see as much of a speed increase.

480gb SSD specs is a lie they are slower on the packaging you receive. It is not a 2E it is a basic 2. It also does not look like the photo. My friend can prove this as he bought one here and it put me right off. It has since failed after only a few days.
