Flashy shiny RAM!!! All we need is the blue ones to be on sale one day ;)
There are blue ones right? I didn't dream that....

Dual channel almost doubles bandwidth and needs at least 2 sticks, so if you only want 8gb 2*4 is better than 1*8, if you want 16gb 2*8 is better than 4*4 because it puts less stress on the memory controller to have fewer sticks. Note though that a lot of boards don't support more than 16gb of ram, i'm unsure if this means they can run 2*8gb sticks or only 4*4gb.

Thanks for the reply,

Is 2x8 addressed in the same way as 2x4 i.e. quicker than a single stick? (I know 16GB isn’t needed but for this price I might well go for it)

Hi ssmacc
not sure if they are addressed the same but yes 2 in dual channel will be faster than just one, but the bigger 8gb sticks have slower timmings!! (just so you are aware)
not sure how slower timmings would relate in real world difference you could notice...
maybe someone could advise

Yeah I think the timings are a little slower but not sure if this makes any real world difference (as you say), buying a new motherboard (z77) and CPU (Ivy) when available so just thinking about ram for this, won’t be upgrading for a while so might go for 16GB now (currently have a Q9550).

Any thoughts on 16 GB of this RAM welcome
