Intel 730K "Jackson Ridge" 240GB "Overclocked" Solid State Hard Drive - Retail @ £159.98 inc VAT

HD-050-IN_400.jpg

Born from the data center, the Intel® Solid-State Drive 730 Series delivers uncompromised performance for PC enthusiasts by combining factory tuned components and data center DNA.

Maximize your computing experience with the fastest consumer Intel® Solid-State Drive delivered to date. The Intel® Solid-State Drive 730 Series is built with a specially qualified 3rd generation Intel controller. Performance optimized firmware and 20nm Intel® NAND Flash Memory take it a step further by factory overclocking these components for a 50% increase in controller speed and 20% increase in NAND bus speed. Optimized for the most demanding tasks, including digital content creation and extreme gaming, the Intel Solid-State Drive 730 Series delivers low 50ìs read latency, up to 550 MB/s sequential reads and random reads up to 86,000 IOPS.

The Intel Solid-State Drive 730 Series also delivers extreme endurance of up to 70GB writes per day for five years (compared to the industry typical 20GB), providing peace of mind for anyone requiring dependable up-time from their workstation or gaming rig. Intel’s advanced firmware algorithms provide consistent performance that you can rely on for both compressible and incompressible data types, plus data center efficiency and dependability.

Digital content creation experts and PC enthusiasts know the highest storage performance is achieved with RAID configurations, especially as Solid-State Drives start to saturate the SATA bus. Two 240GB Intel Solid-State Drive 730 Series in a RAID-0 configuration provide the same storage capacity as a single 480GB drive— but the throughput nearly doubles to an amazing 1000 MB/s when coupled with Intel
platforms supporting Intel® Rapid Storage Technology (Q87, H87, Z87 & X79).

I lost a load of important data to a Netgear NAS (the 'toasters') due to the partition types and 'RAID' (it wasn't RAID, just like it) making the data HDD's totally unrecoverable, even by a specialist company.

Just a heads up, nothing more. I personally will never use them again. Good routers, ok switches, but no faith for anything mission/data critical.

I always thought that the RAID on the ReadyNAS was pretty good but saying that, have never had to test it !

Was the data on your drives not copied across multiple drives ?
Did you contact Netgear about it ?

It was a Netgear SC101 I lost many years of data with. I never had to speak to them as the ones I used were out of warranty (regarding storage, have done for routers and they're ok).

Just dug out all the stuff I went through trying to recover data after the SC101 PSU died -I even bought a second unit to try and recover the proprietary mirroring (it's a ZFS filesystem) and failed miserably.

The ReadyNAS have a much better reputation, but re-reading many of the forums and reports (see above in spoiler) from people speaking to Netgear support about their SC101 problems... Just pray you never have to!

However I do not expect to be laughed at by some foreign call centre operator. The to be told that the manual doesn't say you can use it underwater either. They were taking great pleasure in the fact I screwed up my data and there was no shame in their attitude to not hiding it.

I long ago stopped relying on internal RAID mirroring for actual data redundancy - my current setup (Using a QNAP) has 2x mirrored drives internally for convenience so if 1 dies I can swap out with minimum hassle/downtime and a NTFS format USB3 drive on the back with realtime replication (small hit to write speeds with gigabit but no performance hit with 100Mbit) then rotate between 2 other external drives via the USB copy port on the front to take "snapshots" of the more important data.

No idea if this readynas supports similiar - I had one try with a cheaper netgear NAS and it just didn't have the features I needed.

Oh I'm not still using the SC101's no fear!

Buffalo RAID5 FTW! (with a backup USB drive like yourself) ;)
