Lovely deal on the SSD, and with free shipping :o

well i don`t get free shipping but the cost reduction is just as good as free shipping for me. can`t wait to get it in my system, will have to move around a few cables inside the computer now for this new ssd :D at least i know where to put it in my antec 902 :D

I'm looking an SSD for my gaming/video editing rig. Is this one today probably the best I can get for those uses? I will need something around the 120Gb size.

Hi there

Yes both deals with FREE Shipping and I think were cheapest in UK on the SSD even with shipping added, let alone free shipping. :)

I am logged in. NI is still part of the UK so of course it should be free shipping! Probably isn't though.

Nope NI is not free I am afraid, it might be part of the UK but there is water involved resulting in extra shipping cost.

That price for the SSD is fantastic

kinda a bargin if you ask me... obviously in like 3-4 months a 256gb one will come out and force the price of these down even more, but ocz are the best out there. and for this kind of money is a good £/Gb ratio for the speed you are getting.

Hmm. SSD noob. What's the reliability like on these now? I tend to thrash hard drives pretty hard - I think nothing of creating or deleting a few tens of thousands of files, and do so very regularly. Am I going to kill the drive or lose the benefits in double-quick time?

Only other question - can I manage without 200GB? :(

If you're writing multiples of tens of gigs of files per day plus then you will reduce the life of your drive. There is a thread on the OCZ forum about it and why they now discourage continuous benchmarking of them as each benchmark writes a large amount of data to the drive. The nand will only take so many write cycles until is begins to deteriorate and eventually becomes read only I believe.

This was a major downer when I first read it but an example was given that you could write approx. 22GB of data per day for 5 years, so it's really not that bad.
The MTBF on the packaging is misleading and meant to apply to the enterprise community and applies to electrical component fail and not cell wear.

There are days when I will probably write 50gb plus to my drive per day when editing photoshop and video files and days when I may only write a tiny amount if I'm just browsing the web, so I'm hoping it'll balance out. For me the speed increase is enough to consider it disposable after a few years, but I think that's how we're going to have to treat them as such until they put more overprovisining of memory onto them as nand prices come down.

TBH the majority of users probably will never encounter this or have to worry about it as an issue, but it may be an issue for power users.

Tends to be thousands of small files with me. For example, I'm currently downloading 600,000 files totalling about 20GB. I very regularly move a few thousand files around at work, sometimes several times a day, but 20GB is very rare so it sounds like I'll be fine (5 years is my idea of 'sufficient' reliability).

The deal has ended now and it probably wasn't good timing for me anyway. I'll bear this in mind though for a month or two when I've cleared all my cards. Thanks.
