Hi Guys,

Well, my £500 budget has sorta gone out of the window... d'oh!
Found too many goodies, so have now settled on a £700 setup for my photographic/video needs (don't do much if any gaming, so not a priority... but a graphics update will be part of the future upgrades - along with more memory). - Althought specs might change to a cheaper motherboard... still don't understand the differences between the AM3 boards!

All opinions please! (Had to upgrade the case, much prefer the Lian Li to the Antec!).

Ta,

Andy.

Its been said a thousand times before, get a modular psu, you wont be left with a jungle of wires.

This is the question, why would I buy that motherboard instead??
I'm really struggling to see the difference in these boards, what does it all mean?

Will the chip/memory etc run at the same speed/efficiency on both boards?

Not a particular fan of any company, open to suggestions!

Also, why a 955 and not the 965????

Sorry, last question, can anyone recommend a modular PSU for this build??

Thanks!

Reason i said the 955 with cooler is because you could overclock it some and get more out of your money though if you do not plan to overclock then the 965 would be better choice.

Go for an OCZ modular 500w/600w psu they are very good for the price.

I think I'll be heading for the OCZ unit as they're cheaper (and specs seem just as good) and I still have a limited budget (even if I am pushing it! lol).

Cheers for all your help guys, you and this forum really are a fantastic source of information!

Andy.

The Asus Crosshair III board has automatic OC settings to take it to 3.8ghz for the 955BE absolutely no need to buy a 965 they are identical chips with a different base clock speed.

All you need is a nice aftermarket cooler and your sorted you dont have to do any fiddling the mobo does the voltages, FSB etc itself.

Cheers Shawrey, seems stoopid to pay an extra £20 for an adjusted base clock speed that I can set in the BIOS!

Swapped out for a 955 now, few pennies saved, thanks!

Andy.

The only reason I suggested he Evo over the Crosshair is that it will overclock just the same. Ok, you have to do a bit of work in the Bios, but do you intend to run Quad fire or a big s****y sound system? If the answer is NO then save yourself 60 quid and put it towards something else.
IF you want an easy overclock go Crosshair simples! :)
