Tokyo Olympics 2020

Also don't agree with sharing gold. There has to be a winner.
I think the high jump and pole vault are a bit different in that they both jumped the same height with the same records. On the day, neither athletes were better or worse than the other, and the jump off would have involved starting at a lower mark than what they'd already jumped. I can understand why sharing the gold would be the best option there.

I don't get why they didn't just put the bar say 1cm higher than it had been before... May well have been within the rules to just say they didn't want to do a jump off, but doesn't seem to be in the spirit of things to me.

In some ways it was nice to see them celebrating together as friends, but in another way it just made a bit of a mockery of the whole idea of competing to win if you can just decide not to find out who the winner is and guarantee yourself a gold medal rather than potentially getting the silver.

I'm aware there's some history between the two, but I think it's pretty poor that the two "finalists" get to choose to both share gold rather than declare an outright winner. The Olympics would be an absolute farce if this was an option that was taken for all events.

There are plenty of other Olympic sports where a dead heat means sharing the medal. If two athletes recorded identical times in the 100m they wouldn’t make them go back and run again. It’s no different to what happened in the high jump, their best performances were identical and the jump off would have been like flipping a coin.

Why do they have the red metal frame for the lead rider and just people holding them up for the other riders?

its a hydraulic starting gate it releases the rear wheel when the clock hits zero, prevents false starts

the other riders dont need one as they go after the lead rider has set off

Stupid Danish Muppet.

The shouting at our guy in the floor was out of order when you weren't looking where you were going.
