Tom Tom 510 Problem

I bought a Tom Tom 510 over the weekend and i am not sure if its working properly.

For some reason the Microphone doesnt seem to be working, and also when the car charger is plugged into the window docking station the Tom tom doesnt seem to be charging.

Could anyone who has got this tell me if they have similar problems. Does the light on the tom tom light up when the car charger is plugged in??

Sounds like the Window docking station is dead or duff/dirty connectors!... if its not Charging when connected and no handsfree... as thats where the Mic is positioned for handsfree calling!...

check the connectors to make sure they're intact (on both the unit and bracket!)... failing that, phone TomTom (08451) 610009 or take it back to where you bought it!...

I had a similar issue when I first got mine.

Make sure that the unit is fully installed on the bracket, as mine was just sitting on top, and not locked in

I just tried it again and the mic seems to be working. CAn you guys who have a 510 confirm that the green light on the unit comes on when the car charger is plugged into the window dock.

Also when i am driving past 40-50 mph the person i am phoning cannot hear me properly. ANy ideas??? its connected via bluetooth to a Nokia 8800.

what car you got?
maybe to much wind noise or engine noise

I've got a BMW 316i Coupe and R reg. But they reckon the voice cuts up and jumps?????

And the unit seems to reset itself sometimes aswell.

You might have to get the 'External Mic'... I'm looking to get one for my GO500 as My wife said it sounds like I'm shouting at her from about 50 yards away when I'm on the motorway!... The External Mic just plugs into the Screen Mount and clipes where ever you want! (Sun Visor!!)...

Problem is its RRP is £30 from tomtom... the cheapest I've found is (other than off ebay for a tenner) £20 from amazon with a 2 week leadtime!!... I'm still searching!!

the microphones were 20 quid at halfords when I went in this morning

the problem with using the mic is it leaves a sign of you having a tomtom when you leave the car

With the tom tom 510 you get an external mic that plugs into the window dock, and thats what i have been using....

Weird!!! Maybe i should take it back and see if they'll give me a new one.

haven't had chance to really have a go with it yet but one thought

If I am driving and want to let it control my phone but not use the satnav ( I would think most journeys will be like this ) how do I stop the satnav talking to me ?

Clear route.

Change preferences -> Manage POI -> Warn when near POI -> Check the "Warn only if POI is on route?" box

My Go 500 stays quiet when I'm on the Phone!... even in Nav-Mode Jane will only start talking to me again once I've finnished my call!... this is also the same for the 'Moo' of Gastro-Pubs POI's etc...

it stays quiet when on phone but on 90% of journeys I don't want the satnav at all just the hands free phone

I was wondering about how to stop it give it directions, whilst still having it on for the phone. I will check that out on my way home from work.

Other annoying thing is that i couldnt find an edit contact list option.
In the end i just edited the text file that was on the sd card.
