Tom Tom One / XL

Does anyone know if the Tom Tom One and the XL version both have the same size mounting bits on the back (the troughs in the plastic). ie: will a mounting clip for the standard fit the XL...

I've been offered an XL but can't be bothered getting another Brodit clip if it's different from my existing Tom Tom One..

No they're different, recently changed from a regular one to a one XL and the XL is wider

Is it a worthwhile upgrade? I can flog my TomTom to a mate for a decent price, but I'll have to get another Brodit clip, which isn't very cheap! The XL I'm being offered has full European maps too.

Well it was for me as my one was only a UK one and this one has european mapping, apart from that there hasn't been a whole lot of difference really, runs a little quicker but also it likes to fall off the windscreen a lot more too!

This is why I use a Brodit Clip

I find it bad in hot weather, the heat from the sun makes any small amount of air caught in the sucker cup expand, hence pushing the damn thing off the windscreen!

Can you add the European maps onto Tomtoms or do you have to buy one with european maps on from the start?

You can buy them and load them on via the TomTom PC software AFAIK.
