Hi

more late night research . . .

the XXL 5incher - no spoken directions ?

blimey - sounds a bit backward esp. as the xl edition 2 now has speech

must be a ver 2 xxl on the way - anyone advise ?

i've only had a sat nav once before on holiday - a garmin in north america
and it had speech and one of those bean bags to place it on the dash board
which i liked as i can bring the device near me to type in the postcode though i can see for some people the normal on the window placing would be better

He means the feature where the actual road names are interpreted from the text and read out, rather than the Sat Nav just saying 'turn right in three hundred yards' etc.

Gah, I turn that feature off - hate it. Much easier being told the manoeuvre.

Does the TT iPhone app do this? I've never noticed before!

Yes it does, that's what I used it on but turned it off.

edit - it only works on certain voices (those that say 'computer' alongside) but even those sound normal. When you select the voice it will have 'read aloud' options below for road names and street numbers.

i like it personally - try driving in a foreign country and you'll see the benefits - sometimes you need all the help you can get

thecremeegg - i should have said my research was on the spec , if you check the xl iq routes ed 2

http://www.tomtom.com/en_gb/products/car-navigation/xl-iq-routes-2-europe/#tab:specifications

it says :-

Spoken Street Names comes in the following languages

but the XXL doesnt say that - i think i was so shocked that i posted this question just
in case the web page is wrong !
