him - "its got sugar"
me - "do you like tomatoes"

Tomatoes and ketchup do not taste anything alike. Neither do they have remotely the same texture.

Depends on the added ingredients. I've made home made ketchup and you can taste the tomatoe.

Still doesnt taste like tomatoes though and I've made ketchup and many other sauces.

Being able to taste something doesn't make it taste the same.

I actually dislike raw tomatoes, but tomatoes any other way are great. Be it simply fried or in a beef sauce.

Just like choclate tastes like cocoa but it doesn't taste the same. Ie massively bitter.
