Tomorrow....

If the rockershaft is bent, shouldn't Powerstation have picked up on that when they rebuilt the top end?

Do I have a realistic chance of getting them to replace it, seeing as the work was warrantied?

Depends really, you have to apply faux oil pressure to the vtec system to get it to imitate being "in VTEC" using compressed air or similar. If they just threw the valves back in and put the rockers back in they might not have. Also, the pins have a habit of coming out once you remove the rockers from the rocker shaft, did they put them back together correctly? I suppose the only way of telling is stripping it again, well that I can think of anyway......:(

So when Powerstation did the work, was there a way for them to tell if the engine was ok at full power? Or did they not do anything with it, other than rebuild it because of the ECU running a base map? I have a feeling if they mearly rebuilt it, and didn't get it on the dyno or road due to the wrong base map, that they may well dispute anything that you go to them with?

They put it on the dyno and spent ages fiddling with the cam-timing because it wasn't making great power, 'flat as a pancake' was the description. They ended up setting the cams to standard Toda settings and said power was down due to the cams needing to be dialled in at the same time as mapping it. I was on the stock ECU at the time so they couldn't do it.

But by the looks of it VTEC was never kicking in, they were barking up the wrong tree (or knew it was a VTEC issue and just fobbed me of......)

Sorry to hear that Drexel, I hope its an easy fix.

I'm definatly going to be giving them a call after Performance Autoworks have checked all the usual VTEC problem areas.

At the end of the day me and Si paid nearly 1400 quid for that job, and by the looks of it the job wasn't done properly.

Ah right, clearly they didn't have the knowledge that they needed then and have basically done something wrong somewhere. I'd get on the phone to them ASAP and speak to Richard the manager, he's a reasonable guy and I feel with the necessary proof of it being their fault, he will help you out.

To be fair they are a good bunch in my experience and I've never had any problems with them or thier work before. I'm hoping they'll be reasonable.

I wish I had known about Performance Autoworks at the time though, the car would have went striaght there :(

Because it happened about 5-mins from Powerstation, and bar a main stealer I didn't know of any Honda specialists near me :(

Did you not rebuild your Rex?

Yep. The reason I didn't DIY it in the first place was:

A - I had very little knowledge of the engine.
B - Si had offered to pay half the costs anyway.

However, if I get no joy with PS, I'll be pulling it apart and DIY-ing it this time.

O ffs m8 this is total ****! If PS have done a half-arsed job they need a kick in the nuts!

I just hope it ain't bad, you ain't exactly having the best luck with the car m8. So sorry you're going thru all this, she's an amazing motor when running right though and when you finally get it all sorted with the S300 mapping she's gonna be one of the best on the DC2 forum.

:(

Seen this before and it was the VTEC solenoid gauze gunked up.

The pressure switch at the solenoid can be disabled with the S300, and the pressure here doesnt correlate with what you will see at the filter/dash oil pressure switch, in fact if the pressure is low at the head due to a blockage that will send the main galley oil pressure up if anything.

Richy is on top of what he does though so I imagine diagnosis will be pretty prompt.
