I bought the tomtom app for my iPod a couple of years ago and got the tomtom mount for it which has the GPS receiver built in so was good to go.

Now I have just bought an iPad air and put the app on it. This is the none cellular model so how do I get the app to work. Is there a GPS receiver available for it anywhere or is it simply a case that it just won't work. I know I could Bluetooth it to my iPhone but I guess that will just eat data as I am driving.

I've not used the Tom Tom app since I had a 3GS, but I'm pretty sure that all the map data is stored in the Tom Tom app download, so it doesn't download data as you drive like Apple Maps or Google Maps.

I'm thinking the only thing that would use data would be the real time traffic updates, and apparently that's nominal at 7MB per month if you drive an hour a day at peak time.

If you can bluetooth it to your phone I say go for it and just track your data usage over the period of a few drives :)

I have seen on the bay a little GPS receiver that plugs into the the charging port but at £100 it seems like I won't be bothering.

I still can't explain why my two Bluetooth Apple devices won't find each other.
