During its Q1 earnings conference call today, Navteq announced TomTom One Europe will no longer be using Navteq maps from Q3 onwards. TomTom One being the best seller PND worldwide and its biggest market in Europe, this is definitely a large contract lost to TeleAtlas. It looks like the pricing environment remains very competitive between TeleAtlas and Navteq.

Well, I was looking for TomTom UK & Ireland or Europe until I saw this news. Thats mean from July onward, Navteq is replaced with TeleAtlas.

For a good mapping comparison between TeleAtlas and Navteq.

TeleAtlas

NavTeq

Using the above comparison, there are a lots of error in TeleAtlas from where I live (N Ireland) - a couple of broken gaps on roads (means you have to go a long way around it instead of going straight on that road!) and also many lanes (especially farming area) which were discontinued many years ago! So no TomTom for me!

Is there any good Sat Nav that uses Navteq? Garmin?

My Garmin streetpilot uses Navteq mapping so some of their models do at least!

Didn't TomTom recently buy Teleatlas?

I believe so - although I did read this in the metro :p

Yep, that as well.

I'm looking at Garmin Nuvi 300, 310 or 350...what's the difference?!

TomTom buying Teleatlas would be a definate advantage. Tomtom send free updates for stuff like speed cameras, but they cant sent even minor map fixes, as the map data belongs to Teleatlas.

If they do manage to buy Teleatlas, it would allow map corrections to be made as patches. Which would be great. Sure they would probably want to continue selling 'Annual' updates to cover new road contructions etc, but genuine map errors could be sent free of charge.

Another good thing about Navteq is that my brother works for them doing the UK mapping, so if I see anything wrong I can just tell him and he'll fix it. Although I've only ever noticed one problem in about 2 years, as you pulled up to our old house it said it was on the left instead of the right, which he fixed for me. :)
