Figured this might be the best aplce for this, esp as a few have been to Germany recently ;)

Assuming all maps were present, does anyone know if I can get TT5 to navigate direct from Germany, all the way back to the UK or at least Calais?

TIA

I have TomTom 3 (well 4) for Palm - it came with 'Maps of western Europe'. It's only got the main roads - but is still very good at getting you from A to B with no hitches. I got to the south of France on it with no troubles.

I've not had a proper play with the european map version of TT5 as I've only just got it, but it's got to get my parents from Hamburg, through to Calais :p

Yes you can, but only if you use the "Plus" maps.

Basically each country (sometimes a group such as with the Benelux pack) is available in a basic version and as a "Plus" version. The difference is that the Plus versions contain major roads from the other countries too.

The key thing to remember is that TT5 cannot switch maps automatically nor can it navigate to a destination in a map other than that which you currently have selected.

If you're driving across Europe with just the basic maps then you won't be able to plan the entire route in one go and would have to navigate to the border of each country and then change the map for the next one. Hardly ideal.

With the plus maps you can navigate across multiple countries but it will only use the major roads for countries other than the main one you have selected as that's all the info it has.

Generally, the best method is to use the "Plus" version of the map for the country you're driving to, i.e. the UK in your case. In this way you'll have the major roads for all other countries, which is what you need, but once you get to the UK you'll have the full detailed map for the final section of the journey.

we (6thElement and I) used it to drive to the alps, was pretty good I have to say, only got us lost once when it insisted on us driving through a field, after we refused a number of times it finally gave up and got us back on the straight and narrow again.

Good product I like TomTom :)
