Hi.

Does anyone here have their TomToms working with their iPhones? And/or use the TomTom iPod link cable, and find that it also charges their iPhone?

Im looking at perhaps getting a TomTom Go 730 +iPod link cable, now from what ive read around, it will do the hands free thing with my iPhone, and control it with the link cable for music, but it says nothing about charging it...

Thanks in advance all. :).

what are you wanting to do with it ? to be able to play music through the car stereo, your car needs to have a 3.5mm aux input

For me, the much easier solution is to use the bluetooth hands free and have the ipod connected directly to the car stereo. Bad enough having to run 1 cable to the satnav for charging, without having 3 (one from ipod to tom tom, another from tomtom to 3.5mm aux and power lead for the tomtom)

On the few times I have tried to use a mobile phone with a Tom Tom I have found it patchy at best. My wife has one in her car so I use it rarely but I have found it goes into stutter mode a lot when on a call, not least when it's trying to re-root or do somethng Sat Navy when you're on a call. When it works it is both clear to others and easy to hear but I find it a pain most of the time. As has been said Bluetooth headset is a better way forward, Tom Tom seems compromised.

On a civic its not. ;)

The latest TomToms have FM transmitters built in.
I was planning on having that wired into the car so theres no cables, then 1 cable from that to the iPhone for music, then BT to the TomTom for handsfree.

the FM transmitters are pants

the sound quality is awful, you'll struggle to find free airspace in city centres and they are generally dire.

Is there no 3.5mm input on the civic ? you're best off buying a dedicated head unit tbh, that has ipod and handsfree built in.

Nope, and you cant actually remove the headunit on a civic, from what ive read, the headunit it came with HAS to stay in some capacity, be it in the boot or in the dash, as it controls more than the 'music'. More trouble than its worth tbh to replace.

in that case the tomtom is not the magic solution your looking for

you'd be as well of buying a £20 itrip or whatever to get an idea how good the FM quality is.

you'd be far better off trying to get a proper wired solution. If its the OE headunit, somebody out there will do something. Try asking on the owners forums etc..

How about this?

Bluetooth + proper iPod connections, 3.5mm for other Mp3 players + SD capability. Also fully pairs with the iPhone.

I also have a new shape Civic, and this seems like the best solution.
Ive looked at that, but for +£20 i can get an all singing all dancing TomTom, that wont be fugly either. lol.
Tbh, i dont have a problem with FM transmitters, and ive heard the one in the new TomToms blows the Belkin/Griffin ones out of the water.
Would be neater as well, 1 cable basically coming out the TomTom to goto the iPhone.
OR, if the TomTom can stream A2DP audio, with iPhone OS 3.0 comes out, have my phone in the cubby hole above the gear stick, single wire from that to the charger and no wire on the dash at all....?
