Hi.
I should be getting TomTom 6 for S60 in the morning through the post.
My mate has given me whats aparentely a 'patch' to fix it so that it works with the internal GPS on the N95/N95-8Gb.

Is there any specific install proceadure or nout like that i need to do to get it working?

Thanks in advance all. :).

So i have to bodge it every time i start tomtom! :(.
Why arnt tomtom releasing a version thats fixed!?
Is there a way i can get it to save the settings?

Personally I use Nokia maps - there was satisfaction in getting tomtom to work with internal GPS but Nokia maps does the job just as well - and is a lot less hassle;)

TomTom version 7 is supposed to work. It will be released 'anytime now'.

Yes I was also under the impression that TomTom 6 was pirated so much that they weren't developing for the symbian platform?

I paid for my nokia maps but its just not reliable enough for me, the other day it just wouldn't lock on when I really needed it. I feel I can trust tomtom more.

Surely it's not Nokia Maps' fault if the GPS can't lock? Or are you comparing it to a standalone GPS/TomTom device?

No, i'm comparing it to tomtom on the n95. I don't find nokia maps very good when you really need it, I did try but was stuck in the middle of london bridge waiting in the car for a lock cursing the thing. Then when it finally picked me up the route updates just weren't quick enough. The tomtom software is, I find, generally more reliable. I did used to have a tomtom go 520 which was good also.

Have you got a source for that? I was under the impression that TomTom weren't currently developing for Symbian or Windows Mobile?

Navigator 7 is already available on Windows Mobile, but only pre-installed by service providers.

An internet search reveals one person saying the navigator 7 will be released on Symbian.

A recent phone call to TomTom revealed that either a fix for Nav6 or a symbian Nav7 that would work with an N96 would be available before the end of the year.

A piece of string is this long.

Whys it rubbish? Works fine for me

I got fed up with it not knowing my direction, the over sized car picture, the 'can not plot route to destination' (cant remember the exact phrase), it didn't seem to track too well... roundabouts etc... just felt poor really :(

I was using a Navman which i bought for work, and it was 10x better... being a proper satnav i guess! But now i have nokia maps, i usually dont even lift the Navman!

Think Nokia Maps is a very good wee piece of software :)

Ive gotta admit, although i always used to slate the GPS on my N95-8Gb, since enabling AGPS, it actually locks FAR quicker than my PDA/TomTom6/SirfIII GPS mount.

I think mine is 95% as good as most TomTom units, the biggest disadvantage is the screen size and lack of touch screen.

Next year when Nokia release a touch device with larger screen size, it'll be perfect :)

Im not entirely convinced by the screensize thing tbh.
Obviously its dependant on the car, but in mine, with most suction mounts, the N95 would be just a little behind my steering wheel, meaning the screen, whilst not quite the size of the screen on my HP PDA, would still be more than readable.
But as said, its probably dependant on both where its mounted, what car its mounted in, and personal preferences.
