Hi

Does anyone have or use tomtom on their ipod touch or iphone? Am trying to justify the purchase of it instead of buying a decicated sat nav unit. The all in one does everything appeals to me!

Any opinions of speed or if i'd be better off getting a dedicated unit instead?

Thanks for any help!

Much rather have the dedicated unit, i have both tom tom and copilot and they both suck. So unresponsive even compared to my 3 year old tomtom 1.

Don't you need to buy the app, and buy the Tom Tom cradle with GPS built in? I looked a while ago and it was stupidly expensive. You could buy a tom tom dedicated unit for half the price.

Hi,

I'm lost as to which tomtom to buy! I just figured the apple stuff would just work! My only other alternative was iq routes which I like the idea of, especially the ones that give advanced lane guidance. Any suggestions welcomed!

Thanks

Hmm im not sure, i got the tomtom app but i didnt buy a tomtom cradle, i have another belkin in car cradle i used.

Tommtinkle i would reccomend the tomtom XL, i used to work in halfords part time whilst at university and these satnavs never went wrong. The bigger screen is also useful for when typing in postcodes etc, i wish i went for the bigger screen really.

You could go with the IQ routes etc, but rememeber its a subscription service, so after a year you will have to pay again for another year subscription. Its expensive enough updating maps after a year.

Hi,

I'm assuming you've got an iphone instead of ipod? You do need to buy the gps seperately for the ipod and I wasn't aware that belkin made a holder with gps built in.

I saw an xl with iq routes not that I'd pay for it but the unit was a refurb for £80 which I thought a bit of a bargain!

Thanks anyway guys, I guess standalone is the way forward.

i thought the the last few models of ipod have GPS in them ?

Belkin dont, what i am saying is i was just using a normal hands free cradle.

I dont see why you would need a tomtom cradle with built in GPS as the iphone and touch have it built in. Unless it boosts the signal. But for the price which i imagine it is going to be substantial, i would rather have a dedicated satnav.

Hi,

Thanks for confirming this, thought I was going mad! If it did have gps it'd have been an awesome buy. Shame you can't use other bluetooth gps receivers, if you could I'd have been sold on tomtom.

I apologise, i assumed the touch had gps, i though the only function the touch dropped from the iphone is the ability to call and text.

You would need the car kit in order to use TomTom on an iPod touch. It won't work without due to the lack of GPS.

The car kit does not boost anything. It contains an independent GPS receiver of the same type you would find in standalone units, as well as a better speaker.
