Hi all.

I currently have Navman icn 520 and thinking about selling it to get other sat nav. I think the 520 is pretty good but the only downside is the postcode search feature, which isn't at all good.

I am aware that there will be a software upgrade available soon but I reckon it will be expensive with the addition of the latest maps. So I am pondering whether just to sell it and get another.

Should I go for the navman 530? or go with TomTom?

Which TomTom model should I go for as I am new to TT. My budget would be under £350 at most.

let me know what you think guys.

I'm thinking about the TomTom Go 510. looks quite good. anyone got 510? any good?

Does the postcode search facility work very well on TT?

are software and map updates etc free on TT?

The post code search is fantastic on my TomTom. I had the ONE which I recently sold. I have the tomtom Navigator 5 on my M3100. The 510 has the version 6 firmware which is just as good.

Updates are free. Speed camera database is £2 per month for unlimited downloads.

TomTom. v6 will be released soon, it is much faster than v5 too - 7 digit post code searching is much quicker and it starts up much faster :)

My TT510 has the v6 software?

That'll be TT Ver 6 for Pocket PC as only 5.21 is available at present, yes the TT Go Range can upgrade to Firmware Ver 6.15 is it now? but the Pocket PC App brings all those features plus new maps and the full 7 digit post code search.

I have the Navigon Transonic 6006T

It cost £250 from the motorshow, there is a free update to full postcode search (rather than 5) between now and then end of the year, and it has a traffic master built in, so if there is a traffic jam on my route, it informs me and re-routes around the jam if i wish.

I am very impressed with it, 2.5million points of interest, and that will increase to over 5million on the update.

It is a very good piece of kit.

Can anyone tell me what V6 actually features over 5.2? Worth upgrading to?

Looking on the tomtom site it doesnt appear to have anything new really, other than pointless phone features?

TT6 is mainly graduate colour back grounds, slightly better laid out menu, etc.
It also asks you if you have to arrive at a set time, and it will tell you when to set off and how you are progressing..

Maps/Display wise it's the same..

Alledgedly the maps are supposed to have more content, i.e. speed limits for all roads, but on the PPC version I have been 'playing' with, it doesn't seem to be any different.

Cool, good to have a real world user opinion of it. Doesnt sound worth the bother to be honest then if everything is pretty much the same. You can move the menu's around on the older versions anyway with a bit of fettling.

I bought a TomTom 510 today.

I was previously using TomTom mobile v.5 on my SE P910i.

The P910i is my business phone but I am going to ebay it as it's just not very hard wearing.

Also, this standalone unit seems much faster and updates quicker, also the screen is clearer and much larger than even the large P910i screen.

I routed the external mic and ciggy lighter all behind the dash so the cabling is all hidden and the bluetooth hands free works well.

Build quality isn't 100% fantastic. The small rubber plug on the back fell out straight away and also when you press the eject button the top of the casing moves up slightly.

Overall, I am pleased with the product.
