I have been given a TomTom XXL as a present, the first issue was the device restarting within 60 seconds of switching it on. I restored the device to the factory settings but this did not do anything.

Now, I contacted the TomTom support (now closed until 4th Jan) and they provided me with instructions to format the device and reload the maps. Great, apart from the fact that I don't have the maps on CD or on my computer!

Whenever I turn the device on it says "no maps". I believe the map I need is the Europe 2Gb one which covers Central/Western Europe although this is £44.95 in the TomTom store.

Is there anything I can do to get hold of the default maps that came with the device? I was hoping to use it over the weekend if possible :)
 
If its a brand new you should have the latest map guarentee ( I think thats what its called )

Install TomTom Home and plug in you device. it should prompt you to download latest map.
 
As above - install TomTom Home do the register shizzle then you should be given a list of stuff you can download. The maps should be free if you do the register.

Thanks for the advice. I tried the suggestions above but because no maps are installed the error message "The latest map guarantee does not apply to the map that is currently installed on your TomTom device" :(
