I don't know much about audio, stuff so i thought id ask you guys.

i current have:
Xonar D1
Morduant Shorts 902i
NAD BEE 315 Amp
Playing all music in Apple lossless through Foobar
Genres: Pop/Rock/Garage/indie

i noticed tone defeat on my amp should this be on or off? i have read up on it but, still don't fully understand what i should set it to

There is no proper answer. Try it on, try it off. Some people like to mess with Bass and Treble some just like it the way it is. See what sounds best to your ears ;)

I always have Tone Defeat turned On, apart from late at night wen i need to tone down the bass so as not to disturb the neighbours.

I have it on on my NAD amp. Even with the bass and treble centred, the sound quality is slightly better with it on than off.

Tone defeat removes the bass/treble pots from the circuit, making the amp a better straight line amp. Less chance for distortion etc.

On the other hand, tone controls can be usefull to compensate for room, and speaker/amp/source mismatch.

Personally I think the best sound comes from amps without tone controls (or defeated with the button), but some people like exaggerated bass. I guess too that people with hearing deficiency's might be able to use tone controls to hear the music better etc.
