So apart from the expensive (but very nice) Fever Tree, who makes a good tonic water to go with my vodka?

All the main supermarket brands I have tried are so-and-so, I quite like the Vive tonic from Aldi, but it is a little too sweet. Schweppes is just bland.

Problem is that I can wade through quite a few on a weekend night and the glass bottles annoy me as we don't have glass collection in my area.

I'll try the Waitrose one again.

Waitrose own (not the diet one). Absolutely excellent, and very nearly as good as FT, but at a fraction of the cost.

Well I went to Waitrose earlier and bought some Fever Tree and some own brand. The Fever Tree is slightly better but at £1.69 for 200ml compared to 50p for a litre of Waitrose own brand it is not worth the extra expense for me.

The Waitrose stuff is indeed the best supermarket own label I have tried, `by quite a long way. Avoid the Co-op stuff, it is awful.

I'm yet to try the Waitrose one, but it has had rave reviews. Tried all the others from the Big 3 and the Tesco Finest Tonic Water in cans is easily the best in my experience. And, with a fair bit of ice you'll get two G&Ts to a can!

Said whilst drinking Bombay Sapphire & Tesco Finest Tonic Water.

I don't get why they use sweeteners in tonic (or anything for that matter)? To me it just ruins the whole flavour. If it's supposed to be sweet why not just use proper sugar?

I guess most people aren't supposed to be able to tell the difference?

Picked up some Fever Tree earlier and some Tesco Finest.

Blind taste test (5 times to make sure ;) ) with Greenalls Gin.

Nailed it every time. Not sure the price difference is worth it though but you can taste the difference.

And now back to the gin....

Fever-Tree was the best I could get locally (no Waitrose so can't try theirs) and the elder flower variety is very nice for a change. The reason for me posting today though is that I've just tried Fentimans 19:05 Herbal Tonic. It's got quite a distinctive flavour but I really like it. They also do a standard tonic and a light version (even the light version doesn't have sweeteners, just less sugar) but I haven't tried those as yet.
