Friday night and im not going out!?
Not even after work?

Hell no! Tonight I shall endulge in the geeky side of life.
I will perform my very first AMD 64bit overclocking.

I've had my nicely stepped 165 in the closet waiting to go in the new build with the ASUS A8N-E mobo and some winbond BH-5.
I noticed the A8N series allows for up to 3volts on the v-dimms. Perhaps a little low to be able to get decent results from the BH-5?

As I am completely new to A64 ocing (currently on the XPM which is easier to oc I imagine) I could use a few pointers from the gurus in here.

I have had a search in here looking at the various opty overclocking threads and there's a lot of info to shift through.
If somone could be bothered to give me some pointers like I mentioned above I would be much grateful.

Have a nice weekend all!
ps, should I update the bios with latest version from ASUS or are the other 3rd party ones which are better for overclocks like on the NF7S etc?

Whoa, I've never used more than 2.8 on my RAM, it just gets FAR too hot, as in too hot to touch. Definitley the hottest thing in my case, wouldn't ever want to see it at 3v

BH5 likes a lot more than 3v. :( Maybe use a DDR booster?

You reckon there's a chance it will run 2-2-2 at 200mhz with 3v?
I have a kit of 1gb sticks which are CAS3 which I thought I would trade for the 2x512mb BH-5 and a 36gb raptor.
Current OS disk is a WDC SATA2.

As I will probably run either set of ram at 200mhz, perhaps tighter timings on the BH-5, maybe better to keep the 2x1gb sticks?
BF2 runs a lot better with 2gb right?
