Too good to be true? (cheap MR2)

The MR2s are really appealing to me at the moment. This one looks too cheap though? (It's only down the road so might take a look anyway)

What are peoples opinions of the MR2 in general? I don't need a boot or more than 2 seats

Its a child killing Rev1 with the dodgey handling . Price seems normal for one of that age and milage really. The boot is actually a decent size for the car.

I just looked up the spec.. GT model is 168BHP? sounds good

Nope the UK car is a GTi-16 with 154bhp. 0-60 is about 7.2 with the 173bhp models at 7.7

The Rev1 has very snap oversteer characteristics that were changed on all the models after.

You do realise that the car you posted is actually a imported Jap G-Limited and has had the original alloys changed for later MR2 wheels.

Yep that is one of the last Rev2 MR2's, least that one is a UK car.

Good cars. I like them - you can get UK cars cheaper than that though.

That'll be the one I had. It was a huge amount of fun. I used to steam about the countryside, destroying hedgerows with the boot. Lost count of the time I had to have the rear bumper resprayed.

IMO both of those specimens you've posted are massively over priced for what you're getting. My 80k mile, rev 3 with leather and a T-Bar was only £3k!

Shop around and don't rush it Head over to The IMOC Forums and take a read around there.

The car as a whole- its an older and cheap(ish) sports car. They will all need work doing on them, just try to look for an unmolested example! I would aim for a rev3 Uk GTi-16 or higher..

A convertable is better for the roof down experience. The Spyders are somewhat rare however.

Make sure you get a coupe, nothing is better if you don't like leaks or glass panels squeaking due to the weaker body flexing The coupes are lighter too.

My MK1 leaked and after 3 months on the drive had mold growing all inside of it. My MK2 tbar handle used to rattle like crazy.

My current MR2 is a tintop so no rattles or leaks.

Becarefull about the evil 3S-FE engine though. 120bhp.

Yes, quite common. Both are usualy fixable with a combination of rubber lubricant (ooerrr...) and offset hinge pins.

Sorry to bump and old thread but is this worth looking at? Am still thinking of selling the puma once it's fixed. Could probably get 3-3.5k for it and can spare 1-2k additional.

What bhp is this model again?
