Too good to be true?

I thought a diesel focus would be the same engine as a mondeo diesel wouldnt it? I thought it would go 200k+ plus quite easily?

The same engine as the MK2 mondeo IIRC, not the MK as they are 2.0. The only thing good I can say about those is they are screw moddable for added hilarity

MK1 :( Was redesigned in 98, it's still rubbish.

There have been a larger-than-expected number of failures of bearings in this engine, with big-end and small-end connecting rod bearing failures not being uncommon (possibly due to the lack of pressure lubrication to the small ends), and rigid adherence to the servicing schedule is extremely important to ensure engine longevity, unlike the previous models' bulletproof reputation. A larger-than-expected group of owners have suffered small-end failures at around 90,000 miles (140,000 km), and Ford has described this as being "a characteristic of the TDDI engine"

MK2 Mondeo would have the Endura-DE. The Endura-D would be in a MK3 Fiesta and MK1 Mondeo. By the looks of it, the Focus will be an Intercooled Endura-DI with 90ps.

I don't know, it's all so confusing :( I think Lynx was the original branding for the engine. Rover416i had some variant of this engine in his Fiesta and it was very unreliable.

Funnily enough the engine in my old mondy was the one thing that didnt break! Wasnt a very good engine though :(

Toledo is a saloon though isnt it, I dont want anything that big, I want a hatchback, what about a 306? What sort of mileage are they capable of?

Am I right to be thinking a golf/A3/Leon are the 3 best options for what I'm after? And diesel?

na I dont want one, I'm only 22 I have no reason whatsoever to drive a saloon, the only reason I dont drive something like a smart car or Ford Kais because I'd get blown off the motorway.

I just want something, small(ish), economical and reliable for about 1500 quid, preferably cheaper.

It's a Seat Leon with a boot instead of a hatch - thats it. It was considered a bit more 'upmarket' despite being the same car so tends to come with better engines and better spec. It is not an oil tanker. It has the same internal dimensions as a Leon and is identical to a Leon from the C pillar forward.

There is no list of criteria you must fill to buy one - its a better value Leon. You DO have a reason to drive one - you'll get a nice one for £1500, whereas a £1500 Ibiza diesel is a peice of crap.

If the only reason I had to drive a car was what I could get for 1500 quid I could get a million different cars, I dont know why people try and force cars on people, you're not gonna convince me that I'd like to have a saloon, last time I asked for advice on a car people were tryin to force me into a mondeo.

Does anyone have any decent advice about a small, reliable, economic hatchback please?

Nobody's trying to force you into anything, just giving advice on the best cars for the money. If you were interested in the Leon, the Toledo is the same car for less money - you've got to have pretty messed up priorities to dismiss it because it has the wrong type of back end. Especially at this budget - you couldnt have "a million different cars", with only 1500 quid there's actually very little worth owning!
