OK so my wife has a little half height ATI 5450 that i put in her system that i took from a Dell XPS I put in the bin , the card in Idle sits at about 50c , she does not game or anything at all...but im asking is 50c too hot for an idle card ?

thanx :)

Seems a little high - has the case not got good airflow?

yeah the case is a Zalman Z9

also her PSU is a XFX Pro 450W Core Edition '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply.....now i do have an ASUS GTX560 direct CU ....but it needs two power cables and i dunno if her PSU has those ( ive not looked )

Which Z9? I have the Z9 plus

My 1GB 460 idled at 50. With dual screens enabled the temps are higher still. It is overclocked further and I used MSI afterburner to set a custom fan speed profile (it's quiter at idle now), during gaming it rarely hits 80 max.

What does she use the rig for? The PSU has the connectors for the 560 GPU but unless she'd use the CUDA support it's a bit of a waste if she doesn't game. Have you considered using it as a card dedicated to PhysX on your rig?

ok the card has a fan yeah , the case is the plus 9 , she only really does facebook.....some music forums and thats about it really , ive tried to get her into gaming ..but lol

i'll contradict the person who posted above. it has just the one 6+2 connector. but you should have molex>pci-adapters with the GPU. it's certainly powerful enough to run it.

seems like the card would be a bit wasted though.
