Are people still buying these processors? I am still using a single core one myself, and have been going off & on of buying one of these for about a year. But now the Yorkfield's have been released, so do I get one of those instead?

I was going to buy one when the X38 chipset out, then put it off for the 780i Chipset. I am now thinking about the P45 motherboards, but I just don't know which mobo to buy.

I already brought some memory a while back when it was £25 for 2GB of OCZ, so that is sorted. But then again will I need 4GB instead.

I am being soo indecisive, I just can't make my mind up

Help :(

Given the price now compared to what they were when they 1st released and the sheer overclockablity of said chip I would most certainly say yes. :D

Buy a Q6600 and either a Tuniq Tower, TRUE-120 ot Noctua NH-U12P and overclock it. It will do 3Ghz easily. What do you want from a motherboard? That will help you decide.

Yes I fancy a Tuniq Tower for my system, as I'll be looking for 3Ghz at least

Just get an IP35 or a P5K - Problem solved.

Nah, don't like the look of the those P35 boards, had a few issues with Abit in the past, so frefer to steer clear of them. Gigabyte has served me well, so will keep an eye out on what they have to offer :)

Still see no reason to upgrade from any duo capable of 3-3.4 ghz yet if you just game and general usage.

You're quite a waiter aren't you? :p

If I were you i'd wait for the P45 to see what they're like, then either get an X48 or a P45.

Yeah, have been waiting for eternity :(

I am am seriously considering the P45 mobo's. They do look very good, and not that expensive compared to the X48 series.

Are the 780i mobo's really that bad?

sorry to hijack, but if I was getting one of these for a server (i.e not to overclock), what is the benefit over say a X3220?

No they're okay I thought, far better than the 6 series were. i've not seen anyone slate the 7 series very much. I still think that p45/35/x38/x48 will overclock better though.

I was thinking of the 780i and about getting another 8800 in the future, but I think i'd be better off just having one gpu instead, and putting the money towards some other hardware, like a new 24" monitor :)

At current price the Q6600 is a no brainer choice, for the price of a 2nd hand G0 Q6600 just a few months ago you can now get a brand new one!

3Ghz is easy for these bad boys and all you need is a decent P35 mobo.

I'd say wait till P45 gets in to full swing. Native 45nm/1600fsb support and PCI-E 2.0 is the clincher.

The vanilla Asus P5Q looks excellent if you're not planning on using crossfire, and very well priced. :)

I just bought a Q6600 and a ASUS P5KC, with 4Gigs of RAM for under 300 notes, I think you're getting a lot for your money with that, especially compared to the 45nm quads.
